2020-04-15 14:58 PDT
Richmond RCMP is actively investigating a series of suspicious fires spanning from late March 2020 to present day. There have been a total of 8 suspicious incidents whereby hedges or garbage bins have been deliberately set on fire. So far there have been no injuries but the potential for serious injury or property damage had the fires not been extinguished, is very concerning.
Through data analysis by our Crime Analysis Unit, incidents occurred in geographical area spanning west to east from McCallan Road to St. Albans Road and north to south from Bennett Road to Afton Drive. Moreover, these suspicious fires have occurred in the early morning hours between midnight and 5:00 a.m.
The suspect is described as:
- Caucasian male
- In his late teens or early twenties
- Wearing a light-coloured hoodie, dark baggy pants, and backpack
The Richmond RCMP is asking for the community to report any suspicious behaviour to the police. There may have been other incidents that have yet to be reported to police and if you have any information about these incidents including possible dash cam footage, contact us immediately at 604-278-1212 or by email at Richmond_Tips@rcmp-grc.gc.ca
