File # 2023-9981

Comox Valley RCMP applauds an off-duty officer's impressive skateboard recovery, proving that crime-fighting skills are always on board, even after hours.

On June 27th, 2023, at around 4:59 PM, a skateboard owner reported the snatching of his longboard from a business on Cliffe Ave in Courtenay. Described as a Zoo York masterpiece adorned by pink flamingos and some funky blue patterns, this remarkable ride was valued at $350.

The responding officer finished his shift and was on his way home when he just so happened to stumble upon a suspect riding the stolen board. Without hesitation, the officer intervened, recovered the board, and ensured its safe return to the owner.

The efforts of this officer embodies the spirit of our team here in the Comox Valley said Insp. Mike Kurvers, Officer in Charge, Comox Valley RCMP. This serves as a reminder of the positive impact that individual officers can have on our community, both on and off duty he added.

As for the suspect, he will soon be riding in a different kind of skate park – a courtroom. Charges are being recommended by the Comox Valley RCMP to the BC Prosecution Service.
