Trail RCMP nabs two impaired drivers over the Thanksgiving long weekend

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 12:59 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report about a motor vehicle incident in the 600 block of Jacob Street, in Warfield, BC. A witness reported that an 18-year-old Trail man had allegedly backed his vehicle into a parked vehicle then drove away from the scene.

The officer located the man and his vehicle in the 800 block of Schofield Highway. While investigating the alleged offences, the officer believed that the man’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The officer entered into a second investigation. A demand was read to the man, who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a warn.

The 18-year-old Trail man was issued a 3-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act, a $368 fine for Drive without due care contrary to Section 144(1)(a) BC MVA, and a $368 fine for Fail to remain at scene of accident contrary to Section 68(1) BC MVA. His vehicle was impounded for a period of at minimum of 3 days.

On Sunday, October 8, 2023, at 10:12 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducting a routine patrol in a marked police vehicle when she spotted a 39-year-old Trail woman allegedly driving her vehicle without operating headlights on Glover Road, in Trail, BC. The officer detained the woman and her vehicle roadside.

The officer made observations that the woman’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. A demand was read to the woman, who provided a sample of breath roadside that resulted in a warn. Additionally, the officer discovered that the woman’s vehicle was uninsured.

The 39-year-old Trail woman was issued a 30-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under Section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act and a $598 fine for Driving without insurance contrary to Section 24(3)(b) BC MVA. Her vehicle was impounded for a period of at minimum of 30 days.

Trail RCMP officers deliver life-saving medical assistance in two separate incidents

On Thursday, October 5, 2023, at 2:03 a.m. a Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a 46-year-old man reportedly in medical distress in the 500 block of 10th Avenue, in Genelle, BC. His wife had contacted authorities after the man had allegedly fallen unconscious and stopped breathing while consuming a substance believed to be Fentanyl.

When the officer arrived, he observed the man laying on his back in a bed and believe he was not breathing. The officer administered two doses of Narcan to the man. The man remained unresponsive. The officer checked the man's pulse and determine that it was not present. The officer repositioned the man onto the floor and began CPR. He performed CPR for approximately five minutes until the man suddenly regained consciousness. The man was placed into a recovery position after he began breathing on his own.

BC EHS arrived and assumed control over the man’s medical care. He was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment.

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 5:25 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was on a routine patrol in a marked police vehicle when she spotted unconscious 31-year-old Trail man laying on his back on the road in the intersection of Spokane Street and Cedar Avenue, in downtown Trail, BC.

The officer stopped at the scene and provided immediate medical assistance to the man. She observed that the man’s skin was pale, his lips blue coloured, and appeared not to be breathing. The officer administered two doses of Narcan then performed CPR when the man remained unresponsive. After a short time, the man regained consciousness.

BC EHS attended; however, the man declined further assistance and left the scene.

In both incidents, the officers’ quick, decisive actions ensured both men survived their near fatal ordeals. I would like to commend them both on their heroic actions. says Sgt. Wicentowich

A gift from nature

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 11:23 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP received a report that there was a bear locked inside a vehicle in the 2000 block of Spokane Street, in Rossland, BC. The owner of the vehicle met the officers on scene. The officers were able to see the bear inside the vehicle upon arrival.

The officers and owner were not able to unlock the vehicle with the owner’s keys. The officer was given permission by the owner to break the rear window of the vehicle to allow the bear to escape. Once broken, the bear departed quickly from the scene. The interior of the vehicle was extensively damaged.

To add insult to injury, the bear left a small and smelly surprise left in the backseat. Please lock your vehicles to keep out two and four-legged creatures. says Sgt. Wicentowich

Nature’s porch pirates

On Monday, October 9, 2023, at 2:51 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of three bears on the front porch of a residence in the 1900 block of Oak Street, in Trail, BC.

The officer attended and scared the bears off in the nearby woods. The officer discovered that the bears had been attracted to bags of garbage left on the porch. BC Conversation Service was advised about the incident.

Bears are getting ready to enter into hibernation and are looking for any scrap of food. Please keep your garbage inside and secure to help avoid conflict with wildlife. says Sgt. Wicentowich.

Trail RCMP request public assistance in recovering family photographs

On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 10:00 hours a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer received a report that a set of tires and family photographs were stolen from a vehicle in the 1000 block of Spokane Street, in Trail, BC.

The officer learnt from the owner that the photographs are family heirlooms. Two photographs are from the 1890s depicted a family and are black and white. One photo is a meadow in colour.
