Pedestrian struck by vehicle in Trail

On Tuesday, November 15, 2023, 4:48 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a collision between a vehicle and a 48-year-old Trail man in the intersection of Second Avenue and Highway 3B (Bailey Street), in Trail, BC. BC Highway Patrol RCMP was contacted and provided assistance with the investigation.

Officers spoke to witnesses and located video footage of the incident. The man was walking in the crosswalk after activating the walk signal when a 24-year-old Trail woman allegedly struck him with her vehicle while attempting to turn left onto the highway. The man possibly suffered a broken femur as a result of the collision and was transported by BC EHS to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital for medical treatment. His injuries were serious; however, not believed to be life-threatening at the time of the incident.

An officer issued the 24-year-old Trail woman a $167 fine for Fail to yield on left turn contrary to Section 174 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.

Please use extra caution when driving in the winter hours. It can be much more difficult to see pedestrians in the darkness, and can lead to tragic consequences as in this case, says Sgt. Wicentowich.

Winter rock slide blocks Highway 3B

On Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 7:24 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of a significant rock slide south of the Nancy Green Junction on Highway 3B, near Rossland, BC.

The rock slide blocked both sides of the highway and was impassable to vehicle traffic. The officer contacted the local highway maintenance company who reported that the slide would be cleared in the morning. Traffic control employees managed the site overnight.

While the officer was on scene, he was informed by one unfortunate driver that the driver had crashed his truck into the slide rock pile.

Commercial tractor-trailer flips onto its side

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, at 9:14 a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a motor vehicle incident on Highway 3B, near Fruitvale, BC.

A 35-year-old Abbotsford man informed the officer that he had been slowly driving a commercial tractor-trailer unit travelling when he lost control of his truck on the icy road surface. The truck slid off the road and ended up on its side. The driver was allegedly not injured during the incident. The officer believed that icy road conditions and lack of winter tires, and two bald tires, were factors in the cause of the crash.

The officer issued the 35-year-old Abbotsford man a $138 fine for Fail to comply with trip inspection requirements as per Section 37.22 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.

Winter road conditions are now in effect. Please make sure you have proper winter tires and an emergency survival kit in your vehicle. Be prepared for sudden emergencies and delays when travelling in the area. says Sgt. Wicentowich

Downtown Trail assault leads to seizure

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, a 5:59 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of a 42-year-old Trail man who had allegedly struck a 60-year-old Trail man in the leg with a baton in the 1400 block of Bay Avenue, in Trail, BC.

The officer attended the scene and spoke to the victim. While the officer spoke to the victim, she observed the alleged offender driving by the location in his white truck. A second officer detained the truck roadside and arrested the man. Once the man was secured into custody, a police search of the truck located unstamped tobacco products and 10 grams of a substance believed to be Fentanyl. The officers seized all of the items from the vehicle. The 60-year-old Trail man declined to provide a statement to the investigators.

The matter remains under investigation.
