The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 496 calls for service from midnight Friday April 2, to 9 a.m. on Tuesday April 6, 2021. Below are some highlights from those calls.
Drugs seized during impaired driving investigation
A man was arrested after police attended a report of an impaired driver and observed what appeared to be a firearm inside a vehicle.
On April 6, just after 10 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report of a possibly impaired driver on the East Trans Canada Highway. Shortly after, the suspect vehicle was involved in a collision with a semi-truck. Upon approaching the vehicle, police observed a firearm in the front seat and arrested the driver. Approximately 50 grams of suspected methamphetamine were seized as part of the investigation.
A further inspection of the firearm confirmed it to be a paintball gun. The investigation is ongoing.
Stolen cheques recovered during break-in report
Police are investigating after a report of a break and enter at a motel room led to the discovery of stolen cheques.
On April 5, around 10:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP attended the 1700-block of the East Trans Canada Highway, after an evicted person allegedly broke into a room and something could be smelt burning. Frontline officers attended and found the source of the smell to be a burnt towel.
Stolen cheques were observed and seized from the room. The investigation is ongoing.
Police investigating Knox Avenue fire
A report of a parking lot fire has Kamloops RCMP investigating.
On April 4, around 6 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of two suspicious men lighting leaves on fire in a parking lot on the 100-block of Knox Street. One of the men was described as having a gas can. Police located two men who matched the suspect descriptions and warned them about lighting fires in public.
Shortly after, police were called back to the location where a second fire had been lit. Kamloops firefighters attended and the building was evacuated.
Police are reviewing surveillance in the area. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information related to it is asked to please contact Kamloops RCMP and reference file 2021-10503.
