Targeted shooting leaves one man with injuries

On December 29, 2020 at approximately 10:30 PM, Richmond front-line officers responded to a report from a man of being shot in the 8000 block of Jones Rd. Police arrived in the area and found the 19-year-old victim bleeding from what appeared to be a gun-shot injury.

Richmond RCMP Watch General Investigative Services (Watch GIS) initially attended to assist with the investigation, and Lower Mainland District Integrated Forensic Identification Services (LMD IFIS) also attended to process the scene found nearby. The lone victim was transported to a local area hospital where he has since been released, and he is expected to recover from his injuries.

Through the course of the investigation, we have learned that the shooting was targeted, and suspects have been identified, said Constable Kenneth Lau. Therefore, there is no ongoing risk to the public.

The incident is not believed to be related to the recent homicides in Surrey or the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.

The Richmond RCMP Serious Crimes Unit have since taken conduct of the file.
