May is Jewish Heritage Month

May is a significant month for Canada’s Jewish community. Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom ha-Shoah), Israeli Independence Day (Yom ha-Atzmaut), and various other artistic and cultural events occur during this month.

Both the Province of British Columbia and the City of Richmond have proclaimed the month of May to be Jewish Heritage Month. It’s a time to remember the past, celebrate the present and educate future generations on the inspirational contributions made by Jewish people in our community.

Currently, there are some 30,000 Jewish-Canadians in British Columbia, while the City of Richmond is home to the second largest Jewish community in BC.  Richmond RCMP recognizes the important roles that diversity, inclusion and education play in our quest to keep Richmond one of the safest communities in Canada.

With this in mind, members of Richmond RCMP’s Diversity and Inclusion Section, Community Engagement Team and Senior Management Team are paying visits to local Jewish places of worship throughout Jewish Heritage Month.
